The Future: Our Children

Nature-deficit disorder is not a medical condition; it is a description of the human costs of alienation from nature. This alienation damages children and shapes adults, families, and communities. There are solutions, though, and they’re right in our own backyards. What’s more, nature is a potent therapy for depression, obesity, and ADD. Environment-based education dramatically improves standardized test scores and grade point averages and develops skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and decision making. Even creativity is stimulated by childhood experiences in nature. Read MoreFurthermore, unbeknownst to many, about 16.7 million children in America go hungry at some point during each day. Climate Goals Gain Momentum

Until the United Nations climate negotiations began in Paris, a goal of curbing warming to less than 1.5°C (3.6°F) seemed largely forgotten, overlooked in favor of the status quo. Delegates from the United States, Canada, China and the European Union have all expressed support in Paris for including a 1.5°C goal in what could be an historic new climate pact.

Less Talk, More Action!

The State Department submitted a five-page document to the U.N. confirming that the nation plans to curb the amount of climate-changing pollution it releases every year by at least 26 percent by 2025, compared with 2005 levels. In the document, the U.S. explained how it’s using the Clean Air Act and other laws to reduce climate pollution, such as through proposed rules affecting power plants. Note worthy, the government does not intend to utilize any international carbon markets to help it achieve the reductions.

of the Month

Presidents and prime ministers from over 180 countries arrived for the opening session of the UN Climate Summit in Paris this past month, with the primary goal of creating tangible climate goals on a global scale. It is up to them to lead by example and create a path toward a greener, more sustainable future. We honor the courage of these world leaders to address the most important issue of our time.

India’s Solar Future

India’s prime minister has launched an international solar alliance of over 120 countries with the French president, François Hollande, at the Paris COP21 climate summit. Solar technology is evolving, costs are coming down and grid connectivity is improving. The dream of universal access to clean energy is becoming more real. This will be the foundation of the new economy of the new century.
